5 News delivers distinctive programmes and exclusive stories with people at the heart of them. The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating imaginative graphics for broadcast television (and ad-hoc print/web), working collaboratively with the technical and editorial teams to produce creative work of a high standard to very tight deadlines. The successful candidate will have a desire and ability to shape the role of Designer, and the future output of 5 News’ graphic style.
Responsibilities:
- Create daily graphics to a tight deadline, for broadcast news
- Liaise with the editorial team about the graphics requirement of the day, interpreting and executing designs to a creative brief
- Create ad hoc graphics for online content
- Use Mac and all relevant software including After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop and Cinema 4D to produce high quality graphics
- Proactively contribute ideas about new design techniques and graphical styles
- Work with editorial teams to ensure graphics are embedded in the planning and telling of stories
- Ensure consistency of style and branding across all graphics
- Advise on branding across 5 News and work with the editorial, technical and digital teams to create the graphical content to support the output
Requirements:
- Must have experience designing daily graphics for television news
- A design qualification and knowledge of broadcast and online design and ability to design for a wide range of platforms
- An understanding of the technical requirements of design within a broadcast and online environment
- Experience in a live broadcast environment and the ability to create and play live graphics into a show
- Understand 5 News’ brand values and demonstrate effective use of the style guide
- Must demonstrate good attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Must demonstrate calmness under pressure
- An understanding of Viz templates and their use in broadcast output is desirable but not essential
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
