This series attempts to capture the spirit of Europe's largest street festival - the Notting Hill Carnival (NHC) - which originated over fifty years ago in the British capital under the stewardship of afro-caribbean communities to bridge cultural gaps. Today, it is an extravagant annual affair replete with dance routines, binge drinking and raw sexuality, juxtaposed against the giddy participation of children eager to impress as young performers. Amidst mounting concerns about NHC’s safety and funding, this project sheds a light on what it takes to put a mas(querade) band in carnival as they prepare their costumes, music and float, to attend the lavish proceedings.
