The Transcription Agency, a VIQ Solutions Company, is a leader in the speech-to-text editing industry with a longstanding history of providing recording and editing services globally and throughout the UK. We are seeking a number of speech-to-text editors to join our company within our non-court editing team. Successful applicants will be working from their own homes.
The work will involve intense attention to detail in discerning what is said and excellent proofreading skills. In this role, you will process audio and video recordings, strictly adhering to style guides, to edit AI-generated speech-to-text documents. Each day you will encounter new and diverse content and have opportunities to apply and expand your general knowledge. The recordings we edit rarely feature just one voice and often range from two to six speakers, although there can be more.
The job isn’t just ‘a bit of editing’, it’s a profession involving complete confidentiality, excellent hearing, perfect grammar, the ability to meet deadlines and having a high level of motivation. Our entire team consists of dedicated, loyal, conscientious and extremely skilled people who are committed to ensuring that our high level of quality and service is upheld and maintained.
We can offer successful applicants competitive rates of pay (rates are paid per minute of audio recording, paid monthly via a Bacs payment), along with a flexible level of work each week that is adaptable to their needs. All we ask is that you are available for a minimum of 20 hours per week but how you split these hours across the week is up to you – we work to your schedule. We currently have editors that work for us on a part-time or a full-time basis.
Essential Selection Criteria
Applicants should:
- be fluent in English, with a solid understanding of grammar, spelling, punctuation and idioms (our documents are completed to a minimum accuracy level of 99.5% and so we require our workers to take pride in their work and be committed to maintaining our high quality levels);
- have excellent listening and concentration skills, with the ability to work autonomously;
- have the ability to decipher multiple voices and various accents;
- be able to consistently follow formatting and/or style guidelines;
- be 100% reliable, possess excellent time management skills and have a mature and professional approach to work (the work we complete is deadline driven and there can be serious consequences for clients’ projects and legal deadlines if work is delivered late. Whilst the work is flexible for you to fit around your schedule, we do expect 100% reliability once you have accepted an individual assignment);
- be committed to ensuring confidentiality and information security is adhered to and maintained. This will involve signing Non-Disclosure Agreements, Codes of Conduct, completing a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (including the provision of identity documents), the provision and maintenance of a clean DBS (further down the line), completing Information Security assessments and questionnaires (this may involve a remote access check on your system with you present). Applicants will be required to meet, maintain and adhere to all requirements, processes and protocols around information security and data protection;
- be able to type around 60 wpm (whilst the job will be editing, it can be beneficial to have a moderate typing speed for those sections of the drafts you have to clean up more than others)
- be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week
- live within the United Kingdom;
- be aged 18 or over.
Equipment requirements
Technology is at the heart of our company. To utilize our global, cutting-edge speech-to-text technology, you will need:
- your own high speed internet access at home;
- your own laptop/desktop computer with a minimum of 8 GB RAM;
- Windows 10 or higher (if you are not sure of which version of Windows you have, one way you can check is by pressing Windows logo key + R, type: winver, then selecting OK);
- antivirus program with daily virus definition updates (except Webroot antivirus);
- quality headphones;
- an Infinity Foot Pedal is highly recommended.
Experience of editing legal content will be well regarded but is not essential.
Applicants without speech-to-text editing experience who meet the above criteria, are capable, enthusiastic and quick to learn are encouraged to apply.
