Description
IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 14 million students worldwide, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Localization Editor with demonstrated expertise in Canadian English language conventions and culture. In this role, you will work closely with curriculum designers and content writers to ensure our language arts, math, and science items are linguistically correct, grade appropriate, and culturally suitable for the Canadian edition of our product.
This is a remote 1099 consulting role for 6 months with possible extension. It is open to candidates in the US, UK, or Canada.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Review IXL content and suggest necessary adaptations for our Canadian edition. Considerations will include:
- Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and terminology conventions of Canadian English
- Cultural relevance for Canadian students (i.e., avoiding US-centrism)
- Adherence to IXL style guide specifications
- Grade-level appropriateness
- Ensure overall quality and consistency of language arts, math, and science content for Canada
- Copyedit to improve formatting and style
- Answer IXL queries pertaining to Canadian English language and cultural customs
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- BA/BS degree and minimum of 3 years' experience in an editing role
- Impeccable knowledge of Canadian English grammar and mechanics
- Superior writing and editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail
- Familiarity working with style manuals and guides (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style)
- Understanding of K–12 students’ reading and knowledge levels
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and be efficient and organized while managing a queue of assignments
- Proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets
