The Graphic Designer is responsible for producing engaging and compelling graphics and visual materials to bring our content to life. From social media and website assets to corporate reports and figures for scientific posters and publications, the Graphic Designer will help to support outputs from across the various teams within the organisation. The role will also include advising the communications team on ways to make complex technical information visually engaging through the development of branded icons and other graphic materials.

Job Description:

  • Act as a brand guardian to ensure staff apply the NC3Rs branding correctly in all external activities, as well as advising stakeholders on how to apply our brand when representing the NC3Rs. 
  • Work with the Head of Communications to produce corporate documents and reports aligning with the NC3Rs branding. Provide advice and guidance on media and treatments to develop design options and deliver an agreed solution to meet briefing requirements within time, budget, and quality parameters. 
  • Produce digital assets for use across our websites and social media channels to bring projects and resources to life visually. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to produce a wide range of materials (e.g. designing and creating infographics, icons and graphic content for presentations, publications and reports) to visually showcase projects to external audiences. 
  • Advise and support the NC3Rs team in designing material for corporate and external events (e.g. posters, banners, delegate packs and other materials).
  • Ensure that all designed materials, particularly those uploaded to our websites, meet accessibility guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Educated to a degree level in graphic design, art, or related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).

Knowledge and experience:

  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator (or equivalent) is essential. 
  • Experience in producing simple user-centred designs and creative and innovative visual solutions to present complex information is essential. 
  • Ability to produce engaging and impactful report designs, combining large amounts of text with visual elements to give a professional and easily digestible feel is essential.
  • Expertise in Premiere Pro (or equivalent) would be desirable. 
  • Experience of creating, or working with, templates for Microsoft programmes would be desirable. 
  • An understanding of accessibility best practice in designed materials, particularly for those uploaded to public sector websites, would be desirable. 
  • An understanding of the issues around the use of animals in research would be desirable.

  • Experience in delivering in-house training to staff would be desirable.

  • Experience producing creative and innovative visual solutions, demonstrating the ability to absorb large amounts of information and use it to produce simple user-centred designs. 
  • Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, establishing, and maintaining positive working relationships and removing barriers to delivery. 
  • Experience of working as part of a project team, with accountability for the quality of project deliverables.

Further information:

The Graphic Designer will report to Emma Stokes, Head of Communications. Salary will be in the range of £32,005 - £35,143 annum (FT rate, plus London allowances if applicable) depending on skills and experience.

Based anywhere in the UK, this will be a hybrid role working from home and requiring regular travel to institutions across the UK and the NC3Rs London office.
