About the Department  

The Digital Marketing Intern will work with the Marketing and Communications Department, which constructs and magnifies stories and messages to help and inspire people through running across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. The Digital Marketing team:  

  • Communicates different messages, including promoting our races and our coaching products, clarifying logistical processes about those races and products, celebrating the diversity and experience of the running community, telling the story of NYRR’s mission-driven work, supporting fundraising and membership, and more.

  • Leverages channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race-day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR's initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life.

About the Internship 

The New York Road Runners Internship Program is a paid, 21-week experience spanning from Monday, June 17, 2024 to Friday, November 15, 2024, in which interns will learn from the best in the non-profit business. 

Interns will work collaboratively with professionals in their field of study and will have opportunities to network across the organization. The program will include professional development events and a chance to make a direct impact on the communities in New York City by working select events. Interns will receive onboarding and training to learn about NYRR and gain the knowledge needed to best perform in their role. 

This intern will report to the Director of Email Marketing and the Director of Website Marketing and will play an important role in supporting our efforts to engage with the larger running community. They will have the opportunity to work closely with a team tasked with managing our outbound email communications and keeping our websites up to date, all working toward improving and deepening our runners’ relationship with the organization.  

Intern Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):  

  • Partner with the Email Marketing team to assist with Rising New York Road Runners and Community initiatives email campaigns

  • Provide quality assurance for email campaigns for the TCS New York City Marathon and other weekly events

  • Partner with social media team to help deliver content for Facebook and Instagram

  • Assist with website marketing strategy and provide updates on data tracking

  • Assist with website marketing requests and updates to the NYRR website

  • Assist with TCS New York City Marathon website marketing requests and updates

  • Assist with the strategy and implementation of a new Influencer Marketing program

Internship Schedule 

Interns are expected to work 25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, in a hybrid work setting. This role will also have weekend work (Saturdays or Sundays) to support NYRR events. Dates will be determined at the start of the internship and availability will be taken into account.

Internship Requirements 

  • Ability to commit to internship schedule outlined above

  • Sophomore or junior in college, working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Marketing, Strategic Design, Communications, or related field

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, and content management systems preferred
