Boomkat is a specialist online music retailer and record label group established in 1998, with a long history working with some of the most interesting and pioneering independent and underground artists and labels in the world.

Our website has a strong visual emphasis and we put a lot of effort into the presentation of the music we feature. We also have several inhouse record labels for which we design and manufacture physical formats.

Job Description

The job is a demanding and dynamic combination of product photography, layout design, videography, artworking, idea generation and art direction. If you’re a creative product photographer or videographer with a keen interest in graphic design, or conversely an artworker looking to develop skills in photography and videography, this job might well be for you.

The position includes studio-based product photography, editing and layout design alongside filming and editing video content - usually with tight deadlines. We also do a lot of work in print involving aspects of artworking, including layout, typography and preparing files for print.

Although we are a commercial company, we are stridently non-corporate and are looking for an ambitious and highly creative candidate with a keen interest and strong knowledge of cultural trends and design/art history, with an ability to adapt and take a non-traditional approach to creative work when required. If you’re the sort of person who looks at art, photography and magazines, not just social media, this job might be a good fit for you.

We are based in central manchester and are looking for a candidate who lives locally / in the greater Manchester area, and are open to discuss both full time and part-time options depending on various factors - please specify which would be most suitable for you.

Skills and experience required

* We are looking for a highly creative, energetic, curious, hard-working and enthusiastic candidate with a friendly and positive attitude

* Working experience in product photography and studio lighting including technical ability with equipment and setup

* Good knowledge and ability editing and retouching in Photoshop

* Working knowledge and experience with other Adobe Creative Suite applications including Illustrator and Indesign

* Experience with videography including animation and creative editing techniques

* Good working knowledge of either Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere for video editing

* Good planning and organisational skills including discipline with file naming, folder hierarchies, archiving of assets etc

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Mature visual literacy - with at least two years experience in full-time industry-related employment.

* A good eye and love of typography and layout

* You should be able to work independently or in a team when required

* An ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

* Having a keen and active interest in art and culture
