If you’ve ever experienced anxiety in any way, you’ll know that it can be one of the most tormenting fuckeries of emotions. Even if you’ve only experienced it in a single second of your life, you’ll know exactly how displeasurable it can be. The heart thumping, mind fucking, helplessness. And no matter how much you try to rationalise your thoughts, it all completely eradicates any attempts at “positive” thinking. This song came to me at a time where I was feeling particularly out of control. One Sunday morning last summer, I needed to relieve some weight off my chest. So I rotated between playing on the keys, and singing in the sun. Within six hours I had written (pretty much) the entirety of what you now hear. Thereafter, during a couple of freezing cold days in October, we decided to go on a little adventure through the Somerset fields. We escaped our everyday South London lives, and threw ourselves into a parallel universe. Whenever I’m feeling fed up, I’m lucky enough to have these lot. They somehow manage to time and time again distract me from my fears. So, It seemed only right that they would be a part of this journey with me. Saying that, I’ve realised something. You could go on the greatest adventures with your closest friends, and travel to the ends of the Earth. BUT if anything’s bothering you, you may hear a faint echo coming from the back of your brain now and again. We may run away from life’s everyday, but our minds will always travel with us. Keep the ones you love close, and don’t be afraid to face your fears. Be raw and honest. Make difficult decisions, and be open to mistakes. BUT all the while, be sure that you can find comfort in the fact that we’re all a mess, and none of us have a bloody clue as to what this thing called life is all about.
