‘Inner Light’ is an intensified visual expression of the practice of ‘Shinrin-Yoku’, a Japanese term for ‘taking in the atmosphere of the forest’, otherwise known as ‘Forest Bathing’. The project took around 7 months total to complete and the aim was to express the beauty that lies in the connection between us humans, nature and an enlightening self-actualisation that can come from introspective moments of solitude. Throughout my life I would regularly take time out to walk among nature as I found it a way to invigorate my spirit and dive deeper into myself. It was so effective for me that I wanted to share with others. I had hopes that the imagery could resonate with the viewer and perhaps inspire them to take some time to themselves in nature. The project was shot in 15 different locations journeying over the UK, which began in the city of London and ended in the Forest. I shot and enhanced the images with the intention of creating a balance between reality and fantasy and it was a great chance to put my creative photographic skills to the test, along side my first short film I created to partner with the images.
