It's your prom, glam it up baby, you've worked hard all year to get to this stage. Experiment with colours, you don't have to go with a classic black gown and a red lip. There's so much variety, live a little!

Wear your makeup to bring out your best feature. Work with it, not against it! My main focus on prom makeup is usually the eyes or a luscious lip, gone are the days when glamming up was only for the red carpet, today it's a lifestyle choice.

There is a huge trend on 'Instagramable' make-up right now. If executed well it can look incredible! However, I am finding that people are going too heavy handed with this and it can look overdone! Keep a light hand and build up your make-up and remember to blend, blend, blend! Bold metals are huge this season! I am completely in love with Stila's magnificent metals glitter & glow liquid eye shadow in Kitten Karma.

Consider having a trial first. When you think of a makeup and hair trial you usually think Bridal! But Prom trials have been getting more and more popular over the last few years. It’s a great way of ensuring you’re going to be happy with your Prom look and getting to know your artist!

Find an artist whose work you like. When searching for the ideal person to help get you ready for your prom make sure to do your research! Find an artist who has a style or work you like and can imagine yourself wearing

Choose a look that suits you and will be comfortable wearing all night. This one applies more to your hairstyle more than your makeup. Remember you’re going to be up and dancing all night. Choose a hairstyle that’s going to be able to last all night without your worrying over it.

Most of all remember to have fun. Prom is an amazing experience and only happens once! Remember to enjoy it!

Preeti Bhachu's top prom makeup ideas:

A good skin care routine is essential for good makeup application. Cleanse tone and moisturize twice a day. Exfoliate to to remove dead skin cells, apply a face mask for a nice natural glowing complexion and make sure you drink lots of water!

Keep the makeup Light, Fresh and Airy with soft summery neutral tones If you’re undecided on how to have your makeup, there are 2 main options: Strong eyes and soft lips, or soft eyes and strong lips.

Use primers suitable for your skin type to avoid getting that hot and sweaty look especially after dancing.  This will help keep your makeup looking fresh and oil-free all night. To make a bold statement, go for soft neutral eyeshadows and a prominent eyeliner with that all-important flick.

Tips to keep your lippy on all night: Conceal and powder your lips before applying lip liner, fill your lips in with the liner then apply lipstick on top. Re-line your lips after applying lipstick - this will define your lips and help keep that lippy on.

Match your foundation to your skin tone and blend in with a stippling brush, this will give you a smooth natural finish. Contour with powders to create a soft natural look, avoid straight harsh lines. Avoid bright eyeshadows – if you’re looking for a hint of colour why not try a coloured eyeliner on the lower lash line. Finish off your look with a setting spray. The key to a good makeup application is to ensure you have blended very well, by using the right brushes and tools and not "caking" on your makeup.

My main focus on prom makeup would be to show and enhance the natural beauty of the prom queen or give it the complete makeover depending on the preference of the person.

My top three tips would be: to know how you want to look on your prom night, don't go crazy with heavy makeup and use products suitable for your skin if you're having you're doing your makeup yourself.

My best shared tip in order to achieve a flawless look is to pamper your skin with a good quality mask and serum the night before in order to ensure your makeup lasts longer. Essential!
