What is an MUA? That's an easy one, it' is a MakeUp Artist (MUA). Did you know a Cupid's Bow is the dip in the middle of your upper lip? What about LOTD or cut crease? There's a whole other language used in the beauty industry and it pays to be fluent in it Here's our top MUA: makeup terms to sound like a pro.
BAKING
As the name suggests, baking to a MUA is when one allows the translucent powder to set on the skin. Generally it's a 10 minute cook so that the heat from the face sets the foundation. Dust off and you're done.
CONTOUR
Makeup artist or not, you may have heard of this one. A technique to change the appearance of ones facial structure. Using dark and light makeup to create a contrast, contouring is a key skill in a makeup artist's arsenal. Another makeup term is STROBING, a highlight technique that's starting to rival the contouring.
CUT CREASE
You know that fold above your eyelid? That's the crease. Cut crease is the process of applying contrasting shadow to look like it's been 'cut' to highlight the shape - a makeup classic.
L.O.T.D
Here's one that all good MUAs use on Instagram. L.O.T.D is an abbreviation of Look of the Day. Search the hashtag on Insta or Twitter to get inspired or use it when posting your best makeup work for more exposure.
OVERLINE
Overline is when a makeup artist draws the outline of a lip around the natural border to create a fuller more kissable set of lips.
BEAT or THE BEATDOWN
It's not just knowing what is an MUA, you'll need to be versed in various terms. 'Beatdown' is used when your makeup application is completely flawless.
